everyday life

nyc last weekend, hong kong now.

waking up at 4am to get water, i realize just how much traveling and time inspires different parts of my life. in new york, i try to live with my eyes open-- looking at everything, street corners, buildings, art, graffiti on the walls, subway stations, people, window displays, restaurants, i could go on and go about new york. even the fashion, i even dress differently when i am in nyc than i am at home. then there is hong kong. my friends, my home... things are different here, but also the same in some strange way. the honks is strange in that it does not feel like home to me, but it does... or maybe i just am rejecting it because i do not want to see myself here at all. that i am not part of the culture. people here crave too many things. crave things in a society that makes things all too disposable. i want a life having been passionate and cherished... not without meaning, and i think what bothers me most about hk is that there is a loss of meaning in life here. it is all business sometimes, all about connections.
or am i just kidding myself?
who knows.
anyway, i am still happy to be in hong kong for the next two weeks. hooray to see people that i haven't seen in awhile and fabulous to see my close friends here that i love and inspire my life.
what insprires all of you?

vintage write up

about trace, my baby boutique fashion idea that i had. does anyone remember this? wow my "fashion" days.. where i wound blast my own music and hip hop la tunes and indie rock in the store. though i know no one knows, but i was the first to pop in on 9 ON LAN Street, which is now hit up with my fav store concepts/designers like BBC (the NERD pharrel & Rob Walker my boys), Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garçons, Maison MM, and of course, a hk outpost d-mop. i think in some ways, the street's become a little one of those destination lanes in hong kong that i would be glad to say that i def rocked out first. anyway, the best praise i have gotten, even over a best dressed write up in south china morning post. gotta love the shoutouts and respect from a bud.

from my lovely and always fashionable friend, dee poon!

I think that in the last year or two, somehow, little Hollywood starlets have become theoretical fashion icons and LA style has crept its way onto the scene. Again, LA is another conversation entirely, but for a taste of Cali, drop in through TRACE.Trace, by Tracy, channels LA gear (no pun intended) to Hong Kong. Tracy lives between LA and Hong Kong actually, and her store carries designers like Michelle Mason, Siwy, Johnson Shorts, lots of T-shirts (I personally like plain ones) and easy cotton jersey dresses. I love Trace cause I love Tracy. She was “not” my college roommate. We were supposed to live together, but we never did. She was the one who brushed her hair and wore real clothes to school (I used to go to school in my pajama’s). Scary but one of the things that drew me to Tracy was her Prada bowling bag—she used this as a bookbag? OK, enough reminiscing. Trace stocks trendy and fun clothes that are easy to wear and hard to find. Swing through to get a taste of Roberston Blvd.
Alright so now for my little indulgences. I know this is supposed to be about fashion but fashion extends beyond just clothes and so here is my laundry list of other places where you can buy things.

i am posting this because i also love dee, and now its back to promoting her new project in hong kong. a very cool and exciting project for that matter.

please enjoy all you fashion people out there. remember, rock what you got.

community x company

its been another week alread! long. exciting though. i went to a conference called "IMPRINT" that is part of an asian american ad agency's way of doing "boutique" stuff for their agency to try to gain access to different or "cooler" people in their field. what this really means is like a pop up shop for an ad agency.

so it was good. sort of a break from the daily business of things, but it also got me thinking about why people
like talking about cool and themselves so much. i would have rather it been more concentrated on really the business of working and how design and things work in their daily musings and life. what do they like to do? what do they like about what they do? what else do they want to design-- if they could design anything...
work on any other projects?
there is one great thing i got out of it though-- lomography cameras! these are awesome and my #1 thing for this week for everyone.
go to LOMOGRAPHY.com for ColorSplash Chakras.
the idea that came from this book and project is especially inspring and to know that we all can do projects and form ideas of our own and create. i like that best about the conference. this idea to create for ourselves in our own community.
back to my musings-
#2 a gold rolex daytona watch from the 90s
#3 topshopnyc flagship this month
#4 Baumraum Treehouses
#5 my amazon package that came this week:
luxeguides + Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace
NYC on weds! i will def be showing you around my kind of nyc.
